BUCs and Beats

As a BUCS fan who didn't grow up in Florida, I never got familiar with a lot of the team's traditions during the "golden age" of fandom. I missed out on the true fanatics of the team; the people that frequented the games win/lose(mostly) or draw.

The 70s/80s seemed like the time to be a BUCS fan. Packed stadiums.Real Home Field advantage.Merchandise EVERYWHERE. I hate that I wasn't around to enjoy that kind of atmosphere in Tampa. The thing that I remember from the 80s as a football fan was that many teams had an anthem/fight song.

Visiting a Steelers bar in Orlando(yes, they're EVERYWHERE!), I heard the Steelers anthem, “Here We Go Steelers” after every score. I can't lie…I was a bit envious. That corny ass song lasted damn near forever it seemed. And the fans sang it repeatedly with the reverence of a national anthem. I can’t lie…it was pretty damn cool to see though.

I know the BUCS had a hideous fight song as well, but I'm not sure if it's stood the test of time with all the losing seasons associated with the team.

In 2017, the BUCS did resurrect its fight song, “Hey, Hey Tampa Bay” from 1979. It was well-received by most fans I’ve seen. Especially, in the stadium. However, I think only the “B-U-C-C-A-N-E-E-R-S, Go BUCS” section of the song is memorable. And most of us would surely like to forget and/or replace the end of the video for it.

Like that one from New Orleans, other teams have songs from artists/groups that they’ve just adopted as their own.

“Halftime(Stand UP and Get CRUNK)” by the Ying Yang Twins is the unofficial anthem of those cheatin’ bastards over in the Crescent City. The Baltimore Ravens have commandeered “Seven Nation Army” by The White Stripes.

For the recent Super Bowl run, there was the rendition of Lil’ Jon’s “Lets’ Go” which sampled Black Sabbath’s “Crazy Train” which has been a staple of the BUCS in-stadium experience during kickoffs for a long time now.

But, what if there was an unofficial anthem? What if the BUCS were to have an unofficial soundtrack for the season? What would make the cut to best represent what the defending Super Bowl Champions are about??

What song(s) would fit as a theme/anthem for OUR Tampa Bay Buccaneers?

Whether it’s because of the title or the overall feel/message of the track, leave a comment below on what songs make your BUCS tailgate playlist for 2021??
