Every season I look forward to the BUCS avenging losses from the previous season or maybe even the season before that. I've had a hatred for the Lions going back to that 2010 game that we should've won. I now hate the 49ers almost as much as I hate the Eagles. Some teams and some players just irk me. Sometimes I can't really put my finger on it.
Sometimes motivation and hatred come out of the blue. It comes with no prior warnings and it just hits you and stays with you. This new hatred comes in the form of Chicago Bears Tight End and brother of former BUCCANEER Michael Bennet. Martellus Bennett is now on the list of players I'm hoping get called to take a deep post route that will lead him somewhere in the vicinity of both Goldson and Barron.
In an interview with NFL Network during Super Bowl Week, Martellus Bennett compared playing in Tampa Bay as "playing in protective custody..". Of course, he was mocking the Tampa Bay Buccaneers playing in a small market and not being seen as widely as other teams in the League. With just that little slight, Mr. Bennett has become #1 on my personal 'Can't Wait To See Him Get Hit List'. It just so happens that we get to see Martellus Bennnett take the field as we face the Chicago Bears sometime this season in Chicago. I'm hoping he comes face to face with one of our hardest hitting defensive players and whoever it is puts a hit on him to make him wish he was in "protective custody".
This also calls for the BUCS to do exactly what newly hired Head Coach Lovie Smith said in his introductory press conference: It's time for the BUCS to become Relevant again. It's time for the BUCS to strike fear in opposing team. It's time to prove to the League that this Team isn't a "laughing stock". It's time for fan base and the community to show the League that they still love and support this Team. It's time to get back to prime time, must-see matchups on television. It's time to get back to having a Home crowd advantage. It's time.
So, I can't until the 2014 NFL schedule drops.. I can't wait to mark the calendar for the day the small time BUCS get to break out of "protective custody" and lay some big hits on Mr. Martellus Bennett and his Chicago Bears.
